#Tornado in Algarve, #Portugal - video

While the weather is quite in the states, a tornado ripped through Algarve, Portugal. This person filming got lucky that no debris came through their window. I would suggest you not stand at a window with a tornado coming at you. This could have been the last thing they saw. Enjoy!

Langley, Kansas EF-4 tornado on April 14 2012 - Video

This has to be one of the best tornado videos I've viewed. It will likely be a favorite for some time. Why you might ask; because there is no SCREAMING. There is no 'IT'S A TORNADO', 'OH MY GOD', 'LOOK AT THIS LOOK AT THIS'. Just raw nature at it's best without all the drama. I'm glad this monster was in the open and I hope no one was hurt.


On April 14, 2012, photographer and storm chaser Stephen Locke documented a cyclic tornadic supercell across central Kansas, eventually witnessing a violent EF-4 tornado near the Langley community, just south of Kanapolis Lake. [ Stephen's Web page - http://www.tempestgallery.com/ ]

Gulf Coast Meso march

They look like Meso Convective Vortices. At the least they're Meso Convective Systems.

This MCS/MCV [below] entered the Gulf of Mexico after exiting the Texas coast Thursday April 29. It dissipated on April 3 around Louisiana / Alabama.

This image shows a MCS/MCV entering the Gulf today April 4 off the Texas coast, and one also exiting the Gulf off Florida's east coast which entered the Gulf south of Louisiana in the AM hours on April 4 2012.

Coronal Mass Ejection [CME] Earth impact Thursday morning

Aurora Borealis (northern lights) possible the next couple of nights.

The WSA-Enlil Solar Wind Prediction model currently shows a near-direct Coronal Mass Ejection [CME] impact Thursday morning (U.S. time) from last nights massive X5.4-class flare which erupted at 7:02 p.m. EST (0002 March 7 GMT).

On the page at this link http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/wsa-enlil/cme-based/, The Sun is the yellow dot in the center and the Earth is the green dot on the right. It may take a moment to load but watch as the flare impacts earth on March 8 at 08:00 on the Latest CME-based model run.

Major X5.4 Solar Flare + CME - Presentation (3/7/2012)

The second strongest solar flare of Cycle 24 in terms of X-Ray Flux, just peaked around Active Sunspot 1429. This major event measured X5.4 at 00:24 UTC and triggered a strong R3 Level Radio Blackout. A bright Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was produced and is most likely Earth directed. This movie has various images and slide shows by SDO, STEREO Behind COR2 and EVE.

Lightning Video

Short video I took from my back porch the morning of January 11 2012 around 6 AM EST. The frontal passage that brought thunderstorms to the Cataula area was responsible for tornadoes in Texas on January 9 and North Carolina on January 12.

Reed Timmer and TVN intercept multiple tornadoes in D2 during the November 7 southwest Oklahoma tornadofest. Watch it to the end and see storm chaser Andy Gabrielson roll his vehicle in the outer circulation of the tornado as he tries to get away.

Storms bring Rain to Cataula, surounding area

To much delight, the local area saw some rain last night and early this morning, some of which was accompanied by stronger thunderstorms. I did manage to get some video of the lightning along with some stills from the video seen below. Not the greatest; what do you expect from a cheap camera ?

While severe storms crossed through and around the area, there wasn't much damage to report locally. The usual tree taking out power lines and power outages due to some other reason, not yet known for some in Harris county. I did hear the Hail at my location and even saw it when I went outside. It was light and pea sized lasting about 30 seconds. It was gone before I could grab some and get a picture. I mentioned this on Facebook and Twitter

As far as storm reports go, for the local area there were 2. As usual, there were likely more but unreported.

No Rain Again,Storms around the area - June 11 2011

A video and a couple pictures documenting the lack of rain at my location in Cataula, Harris County Georgia.

With storms firing all around the Cataula Georgia area, I again was left high and dry. I have now begun to call this area 'The Bermuda Triangle of Harris County'. I have mentioned on the blog that many areas not yet considered to be experiencing 'exceptional drought conditions' according to the drought monitor, to be experiencing localized 'exceptional drought'. My area being one of them.

This is a radar capture of the storms as the began to fire up at 4:54 PM EDT June 11 2011. During this time and afterwards, the radar filled in. If you only saw the radar, you would think it was raining.

A couple pictures showing I had no rain, yet again. Notice the time stamps.

And a condensed video spanning from about 5 PM until 8:30 PM. The only thing it shows is frequent lightning, storm outflow [wind] and you guessed it, 'NO Rain' other than a quick shower lasting about 1 minute.

An enlargement of the area. See that 'white dot' just north of the Harris Muscogee county line ? Thats me.

At the Columbus Metropolitan Airport, they didn't fair much better June 11. They picked up 0.03 inches which puts the deficit at -8.22 inches for the year, so far. I'm much drier out here.

I followed and tweeted the movement of the storms. There are other tweets, but these are the ones concerning the local area. In order:

Showers and storms heading our way from the North, moving into Meriwether County. No warnings except for Heard CO. at this time.

Storms firing ahead of outflow boundary to our north almost to Harris county. No warnings

Storm to our north in Heard County looking impressive on Radar pushing 70 DBZ

By radar it looks like Harris county will miss the strongest storms at this time..stay tuned

Sounds of Cicada

I said Cicada, not al Qaeda.

Almost 4 weeks ago, the Cicada invaded my location here in Cataula GA. You can drive to other areas around the local area, but you don't hear or see them. When the sound the cicadas make first started, I thought I was hearing a piece of equipment, something dealing with high pressure. Then I thought; I wonder if the sound I'm hearing is a leak in the underground natural gas pipeline close by ? It wasn't until I saw a story by a local tv station that I found what was causing the whining buzzing noise. The cicada had made an appearance.

Honestly, this is the first time in my life that I've heard this sound. I consider myself an outdoors person, and jobs I've had were outside. But never in my life had I heard this sound. Maybe it was there off in the distance. Maybe the cicadas weren't as loud. But this year, what a sound.

This past Saturday I noticed many of the bugs with alien looking red eyes moving through the tree tops, so I grabbed the camera and shot this video. You cant see the cicadas, but you can sure here them.




Heres a couple pictures of the bug eyed cicadas mating on the hood of my truck from late April.
And no they didn't make that mess during sex. Thats bird poop.

As much as the sound is annoying, I hope to be around 13 years from now to hear it again.

            TREES CRASHING DOWN

Tushka, OK Tornado and Damage aftermath footage 4/14/2011 - Video

A very large and destructive tornado hit the southeastern towns of Atoka and Tushka, Oklahoma on Thursday night causing extensive damage, multiple injuries and at least one fatality in Atoka county.

In the video by BNVN Weather Paparazzi Brandon Sullivan, he witnessed a large tornado Just south of Tushka, OK that crossed the road in front of him. After the tornado passed by his location, he saw extensive damage in the town where his chase partners and him stop the chase and started checking the houses for anyone that may have been trapped in the debris.
