The map features entire confirmed tornado tracks and not just the individual county-based segments or reports.

With a relatively quiet week expected in terms of severe weather, we'll take the opportunity to look back at some notable tornado statistics from a very active 2011. A total of 48 states reported tornadoes in 2011, which ties 1989 for 1st place for the most states reporting tornadoes in a given year. As far as yearly totals, the total number of tornadoes (1690 - subject to revision) in 2011 ranks second only to the 1817 tornadoes reported in 2004.
